TO ALL BUDDING GRAMMAR AFICIONADOS

I have three questions for you guys. I hope you can help. 1st Question: “I don't know how to go about this" John said “Did you go to class John?" I said [Do I need the I said?? or is it obvious it is me???] “No- but our teacher is so bad" John said [Do I need the John said here or is it obvious John is speaking?] 2nd Question: Also, does dialogue that is in quotation marks need to be grammatically correct like: "We just got back from school, where have you been?" I have deliberately made a comma splice in the dialogue but is that okay because it is in quotation marks? 3rd Question: If I am referencing a book I have in a bunch of description does the book name need to be in single quotation marks. This is what I have written: Equipped with 'The Fault in Our Stars' and 'How to Lose Friends & Alienate people', I knew I was on track to becoming a loner. Do I need the single quotation marks or not? If anyone can get back to me ASAP that would be great Many thanks
