Is it possible or odd to major in architecture and minor in engineering? I was thinking more on the lines of structural, civil, industrial, environmental, or mechanical engineering. I am already far into my architecture degree, but after doing some extensive research, I'm not feeling to confident about the number of good jobs available for an architect; in particular jobs that pay well. Would I look more diverse if I minor in something that compliments architecture?

Grade deflation?
Is it true BU gives out Cs and Ds to most students? How far does this apply to a math or Computer Science major?
I'm afraid this will lower my chances of getting in to a prestigious grad school.

Lying on your application
My daughter mentioned that a person at her school joked to some kids about "exaggerating" on her college applications. I don't care about that or have any interest in the specifics, but it did make me wonder. How does a school know whether the info. on an application is true or not?
If someone completely fabricated community service, job experience, clubs, etc., how would a school know this given that they may get 50k+ applications? Aside from test scores and transcripts, much of the info. would not be convenient to verify.
To head off any possible negative comments - no, I do not recommend doing this.

Dartmouth Students Take Over President's Office, Demand Response To Freedom Budget
"A group of Dartmouth College students staged an overnight sit-in Tuesday at the office of the Ivy League university's president, demanding a point-by-point response to a list of action items the protesters say will address a variety of issues on the campus." …

Rutgers or Ohio State? (Business Student)
Hello,
So, I have narrowed it down to Rutgers and OSU. Im in-state for Rutgers and oos for OSU. However, I received two scholarships at OSU making the prices of both schools virtually the same.
Now, here is where I stand: I prefer OSU's campus and prefer its student life. OSU is ranked 17th for it's undergraduate business program and Rutgers is ranked 33rd, a small difference. However, where Rutgers truly does have its leverage is location.
As a business student, internships will play a major role in the development of my career. Since NYC is the heart of the business world, I definitely plan to come back to the east coast after I graduate. Hence, as much as I would love to attend OSU, it almost seems counterintuitive to do so. The way I see it, since Rutgers is already so close NYC, the internship opportunities and the connections that I would make at Rutgers would undoubtedly be better in comparison to those I would obtain at OSU.
But, perhaps I am wrong. Perhaps, OSU would be able to provide everything I need. To wrap things up, my real question is, is Ohio State a name that is as well-recognized in NYC as Rutgers? Or, is Rutgers better suited for my goals?
Thank you very much!

I know it's early, but usually high school course selection starts at around this time, so why not?

Self studying AP chemistry with Zumdahl
Hello,
I am self-studying AP chemistry with Zumdahl. I am currently just doing questions at the end of the textbook that says "Exercises" with the questions divided by the sections. I was wondering if that would be enough questions to get a 5 on the AP exam or if I need more practice. If I need more practice, where should I obtain those exercises?
Also, should I get the student solution guide or is that not effective?
I am self studying so I was wondering what I should do about the labs. How are other self-studying students making up for these labs?
Last, what chapters of the Zumdahl textbook does the new AP biology curriculum require?
Thanks!

I sometimes shop based on where I, or my kids, went to college.
Good thing CC is anonymous because I am going to admit a really silly behavior. I make decisions, when there is information to do so, based on my own alma mater or my kids. So I watch CBS in the morning rather than ABC, etc. ( And it is also mostly news and not as much fluff, but that is another discussion.). I shop at Home Depot rather than Lowes. And the decision list goes on. Eat Ben & Jerry's over other ice creams, etc. ( And especially hope Phillip Roth wins the Nobel Prize in Literature.)
I guess I figure that if my, or my kids, alma maters become more wealthy, prestigious,or well known, that will benefit them, ie school reputation goes up, so does their degree. I also figure, if the above, there will be more donations, to the benefit of future potential scholarship students.

High School Class of 2014
So, I have seen a thread for the class of '15, the members of which aren't even in high school yet. I figured that we needed a thread of our own. If there already is one (I haven't found one) direct me to that. Just post whatever, academics, non-school related things, schedules, that sort of thing. Uhh, I'll post my next year's schedule for y'all to compare yours to, and that sort of thing.

Penn State or UCSD or Purdue?
Hi, I got into these 3 schools, and I'm having a hard time deciding. I want my major to have something to do with mathematics, like accounting or actuarial science. Is Penn State really strong at math? Please help me......

Computer Science majors with a "3.5 & under" who are waiting for 2014 DECISIONS, come here right now
Alright, let's figure this out.
I applied to UCSD, UCI, UCD, UCSC, and UCB in total. I'm a computer science major with a 3.47. This is my current status:
-finishing last major prereq for UCSD this sem
-finished with major prereqs for UCI
-will be missing 1 major prereq for UCD
-will be missing 2 major prereqs for UCSC
-will be missing 1 major prereq for UCB
I haven't heard back from a single UC. I just wanted to know if any of you other computer science majors with around the same GPA I have, heard back from anywhere yet. If so, can you tell me your about your GPA, prereqs, and the UC's that you got into?

Football tickets for students
I apologize if there is already a thread on this, I have not been able to find it. Looking at the school website it seems that students need to buy a package of tickets. So they do not get to go to every home game? And do they go on sale at a particular time or when you register for an orientation date. We just submitted out admissions deposit this week so we have not received info about orientation yet. Do freshmen easily get tickets? Thanks so much

Habing a Moped at USD

McCombs
Hello everyone. I know there is no real answer to this question, but I'd like to know what you guys think about this. If you were ranked 11% in your class, what SAT score would you need to have to make McCombs a match/low reach (70%+ chance your going to get in). I'll post some of UT's stats below to make it easier. I'm in state and assume my essays/EC's/etc. are all above average.

BME College Choice: UPenn v. JHU v. Duke v. Rawlings Scholar Cornell
Hey guys, I was very fortunate to be accepted to the 4 top schools listed above. My original selection was Fisher M&T at Penn, but I did not get in ED-M&T or RD (think my "why M&T" essay was weak smh). I would love to hear some opinions from the gurus, especially those at said schools, on CC about what and where I should weight more heavily in my decision to major in BME at one of these four universities.
At Penn, I know I have a shot of transferring in to M&T, but there are only 5 seats and it is definitely not a good single reason to attend Penn. One question I have is in regards to the value of the regular dual degree program. Is it anywhere near in prestige to M&T? Does Penn have a strong engineering culture, or a strong research focus? I am lukewarm on the latter, as Penn does not have many honors programs, at least the freshman level. It is, however, where I am leaning, since I really love the campus and feel of the place. It would also be great to join the one of the top ranked quiz bowl groups in the country,
At Cornell, I am a Rawlings Presidential Research Scholar, which has superb benefits and sounds phenomenal to me. The only thing holding me back from immediately accepting Cornell's offer is that I am not sure of the flexibility in future the degree will give me and I am not sure of the campus culture. I plan to visit April 17th.
At JHU, I would be entering probably the toughest undergraduate BME program in the world. Every person I've talked to, even professors at top 25 universities, remark "Wow, JHU BME is intense." This challenge motivates me, but I live 45 minutes from JHU. Not great to go to Baltimore when I've been around for 17 years of my life.
Duke is great along the same lines of JHU. Great BME program, and I love the sports (Blue Devil football is rising!). Plan to visit between the 11th and 17th.
CC, what do you think of my choices? I hope you can see that I am torn between a strong desire for a very good technical education, but that I am also looking to get a good business degree if possible (hence my desire to participate in M&T).

Parents of the HS Class of 2016
Anyone else out there with a potential 2016 high school grad? S is one of them - right now, in the throes of deciding which high school he should go to. Having been down this road with D (class of 2011), things do feel a bit easier - although S is definitely a "different" kid from D.
